Avaya Announces End-of-Sale for BCM

Avaya has announced “End of Sale” dates for the BCM50 and BCM450 products as of March 2012. Avaya is merging the Nortel BCM systems into the Avaya IP Office.

So, what does that mean to support of your current BCM50 or BCM450 system? You can depend on support from CPI / Avaya for about seven more years. Avaya will provided parts and labor for that system until March 1st, of 2018.

Since you already have an investment which will last for about seven more years, you are not forced to change your system. You may want to investigate upgrading to the IP Office to get some of the advanced capabilities like Unified Communications and the built-in conference bridge. Avaya continues to protect your existing Nortel investment by allowing you to keep your telephone sets should you upgrade to the new IP Office.

Communications Products, Inc. (CPI) is pleased to be one of the corporate sponsors of the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT)/Indiana Aspirations for Women in Computing 2010-11 Competition. This competition will recognize 20 high school women from around Indiana for their accomplishments and aspirations in computing and technology.

NCWIT is a “non-profit coalition of more than 200 prominent corporations, academic institutions, government agencies and nonprofits working to improve U.S. innovation, competitiveness, and workforce sustainability by increasing women’s participation in IT.” The award recognizes high school women for their computing-related achievements and interests.

Indiana University School of Informatics has been instrumental in putting the Indiana Aspirations Awards program together, a program that will encourage young women to further their interest in Information Technology and will benefit all of Indiana.

Avaya + Nortel = Exponentially Better

On January 19th, 2010 Avaya unveiled their Technology Roadmap for the future of the products they acquired in their purchase of Nortel.  It was refreshing from a number of standpoints.  First, they did what they said they were going to do; they presented a roadmap one month after the acquisition was finalized.  They chose an approach to protect the current investments made by Nortel and Avaya users. And, they unveiled a strategy using SIP to connect client communications to other business applications via their Aura platform.

This approach shows that they do not want customers to have to rip and replace their systems.  It shows they did not just “buy the base”.  The model gives their clients the time and ability to progress to more integrated communications enabled business process on their own terms.  They can keep what works and evolve to the sophistication they need.  A customer can upgrade to the latest software and not have to throw away the bulk of their switch hardware and terminals.
