The introduction of managed IP phones in Interaction Center 3.0 dramatically reduces phone-related administrative overhead and greatly increases management capabilities. However, it also increases the complexity of the required environment. This clip covers the basic ingredients required to get managed Polycom phone provisioning up and operational.

  1. This is a great video tutorial and I’ll link it on my blog at http://www.interactiveconnect.com. Thanks for providing it to the community.

  2. This is a very comprehensive tutorial of this feature. Very well done.

The only correction that I would make is that you don’t want to use https://provision.phone.local:8089 in the DCHP settings (as was specified in the default value for the Option 160 record). The bootrom (in pre-4.0 firmware) cannot handle https and will change the url to http://provision.phone.local:8089 and it will fail. You can use http://provision.phone.local:8088 for all phones. Provisioning requires https for ININ Softphone and will redirect the softphone to https://provision.phone.local:8089.

  3. Thanks for the comment, Chris. I’ve actually never had a customer require https for phone provisioning, but wanted to mention that for sites that require it, the provisioning subsystem uses port 8089 for secure http provisioning.
